It has been an enormous satisfaction for Latino Press, to participate on Sunday March 15 at the Lunch to benefit Verito Flores, the Mexican little girl that came to Detroit at the beginning of February just to have a doctor’s consultation and was accomplished that she had the two eyes surgeries. Now Verito has hope that through these procedures she can recover her sight, which she lost when she was just born. As you may remember in the Latino newspaper February 26th edition , we introduced you to her story and asked all the community for support to make the miracle happen. The Flores Prieto Family from Chihuahua, Mexico needed help to cover the cost they had to afford for the little two years old twin girl…well the miracle happened! As an iniciative of the Bible Studies Hispanic ladies group called “Faith in Motion” that gather every Thursday morning at the Saint Mary of the Hills Church in Rochester Hills, an event took place to raise funds. This group “Faith in Motion” received Verito and her mom three weeks before and heard the story and their need of support.
They dedicated themselves with enthusiasm to organize the event. More than 15 women and their families donated their love, time and of course the delicious Mexican dishes to satisfy more than 500 guests to this Sunday lunch. Awesome organization! The parishioners at Saint Mary of the Hills have received this new group months ago with enthusiasm, a new Hispanic community is taking place in this catholic parish in the Northeast of Detroit, having monthly Spanish mass. It is great to witness how our culture integrates, cooperates and is welcome. The Parish, Rev. Stanley Ulman and the parish community, gave all the support for the raisin funds event. We thank you all and also to Deb, the Church secretary. In the name of our editor Elias Gutierrez, mine and all the Latino Press staff, we are honored and satisfied as a Hispanic media, of this campaign to benefit Verito, which we iniciated with no other interest than bring back light to her eyes. Through the 40 days that Verito, her mom and godmother stayed in Michigan, her two surgeries were performed, medical check ups and her prescribed eyeglasses fabricated.
They have received even more, they left Michigan full of satisfactions, new friends and loving gestures, convinced of the great generosity of our community, even we’re facing economic difficulties, still there are good people that help to accomplish other’s needs. Through this article we want to deeply thank the Saint Mary of the Hills community, all our friends of the incredible group “Faith in Motion” for their great testimony. Thank you all and each family who donated such wonderful dishes, the ones to attend the lunch and also those who couldn’t but gave their contribution. Special thanks to Mexicantown Bakery in Pontiac,Mexican Restaurant “Cuatro Amigos” in Rochester Hills and “La Mexicana” Bakery in Pontiac.
